Security
and Virus Information
Over the past few weeks and months
we have seen an incredible increase virus emails being sent out
via spoofed email addresses. Lately many have been sent
out carrying BargainBaseballCards.com email addresses.
These emails are being sent by infected computer(s) that have
our email address in their address book. We are not
infected. We understand though that people tend to trust
emails we send out and may open these messages. Here are a
few things to keep in mind when receiving email from us:
- We only send email out from
two accounts.
Ebay@bargainbaseballcards.com and
Chris@bargainbaseballcards.com. If you receive an
email from any other address on our domain it is best to
delete it, as it has not come from us.
- We never send attachments
in email. If you receive an email from our address that
has an attachment, delete it.
- Our emails are checked for
accuracy and we ensure that you will be able to read them.
If you get a message with gibberish, delete it.
The most recent (and most
tricky that we've seen) virus is the Beagle virus. Here is
a bit of the text from that email (we actually received the
virus email, sent to us, supposedly by us.) The email will
come from noreply@bargainbaseballcards.com
"Dear user, the management of Bargainbaseballcards.com
mailing system wants to let you know that,
Our main mailing server will be temporary unavaible for next
two days,
to continue receiving mail in these days you have to configure
our free
auto-forwarding service.
For more information see the attached file.
Attached file protected with the password for security reasons.
Password is 82637.
The Management,
The Bargainbaseballcards.com team"
This virus is a bit tricky, but
remember, we will never send messages with attachments, noreply
is not an email address on our domain, and we don't sign
messages "Management".
If you have time check out
Symantec's
Security Response Center. You can read up on some of the
more prevalent virus's going around today to get more familiar
with their tell-tale signs, reducing your risk.
If you have any questions about
the virus's or have a suspect email you want to confirm before
opening it don't hesitate to contact us at
chris@bargainbaseballcards.com
Thanks.
